That is where I have been for the last week. I realized today I haven’t posted on here and barely on any social media… lets just say I’m slightly overwhelmed! I am not techy, I haven’t ever claimed to be but this experience is really making me understand how not techy I am! So here is what is going on…
I am SO excited to get everything set and ready to go. The new blog is SO pretty and organized in a whole new way! I was able to transfer all of the posts, pictures, comments, followers, everything to the new site so no one will miss out on any of this goodness! I have some amazing things coming up and I felt it was the right time to take the plunge and have a website that really reflected me and my vision and I think I have made a great choice. Watch Facebook and Twitter for the official launch, it’s almost here! Also, make sure you subscribe (on the right sidebar) and you will get all the details directly in your inbox!
How in the world?
Yea, I know. That was my question. Wait, I need to “export” my whole blog onto my external hard drive, buy a framework and a theme, install them and a ton of plug-ins, activate all of these said words that literally mean nothing to me, then upload my whole blog onto this new platform. Oh, OK! Sounds super easy, lets do this!
HAHAHA! That is hilarious!
OK, let’s give this a go!
I have really learned to love blogging and other bloggers and especially blog design. I love to look around, read great content, connect with other people doing what I am doing and getting ideas. I also have learned that the way a blog looks makes a HUGE impact on how I feel about a blog and whether or not I am going to stick around and read or hit the road quick! If it is boring or hard to navigate, I’m out. If it is pretty and inviting I am much more likely to stick around and most likely share it with my friends!
When I first started thinking about changing the appearance of my blog, I had no idea what I was doing or what all came with it. I knew I wanted to be able to 1) make money and 2) I wanted to be able to customize everything to really show “me”. I love when I go into a blog and it is inviting and I feel like I could have a cup of coffee (or glass of wine) with the author. I want people to get that when they visit me and I want to make some money on the work I am doing so I can continue stay home with my babies!
So I started doing some research and I found some AMAZING tools! I will go over a little of it here, but you will be able to find all the details on the resources page on the new site!! (did you sign up for updates yet!?)
Helpful people that made the switch doable!
Justagirlandherblog.com I just happened on this site on a random (time-wasting) Pinterest session! It turned out to be NOT a time wasting session and since then (maybe 4 weeks) I am SO busy trying to make my site exactly what I want it to be, I haven’t wasted much time at all! I started at the beginning “how to start a blog” (I didn’t know if I had even the basics right, like I said I’m not techy!) So I started there and worked my way up to her AMAZING ebook Building A Framework. I am inspired and motivated and she made it so easy!
WordPress.com This is where my blog started at. It is free and you can post and have your own theme, but it is not super customize-able and is also not a place that allows you to make any money. It was a great place to start and start building a following. They were VERY helpful when I was trying to figure out what to do and when to do it, their live chat option was sanity saving, to say the least! I would highly recommend this option if you are just starting out and don’t care about making money.
WordPress.org This is where I am at now. It is very similar to .com but much more detailed. I have had moments while trying to set this all up where I needed to walk away because I was about to freak out, but again, the help I’ve received from them has been phenomenal! I am able to navigate the site with ease, because it is essentially set up like the .com site is… thank you for that!
Bluehost.com This is where I have my new site hosted. I am still learning about all of the features of being self hosted, there are many. This option is affordable for someone like me who is just starting out and offers tons of support, also great for someone like me! I have actually gotten a couple phone calls, from REAL people, asking me if they can help me! (The answer is always YES!) They are great!
Monetizethyself.com* Nicole is AMAZING. She hasn’t specifically helped with this switch, but she has inspired a bucket full of inspiration and with the knowledge I am gaining from her everyday, I am positive that this is the right move for me and my business! She is also on Periscope… if you aren’t, what are you waiting for! If you are, follow her! You will not be disappointed!
That is just the beginning
These are the major players in my game right now. When I launch the new site, I will go over each resource in more detail, including the cutest company ever that made the theme I purchased and also what in the world a framework is… there is a learning curve for sure! But I am here to tell you if I can do this, anyone can!
I am excited to move forward, both for my business and also for you. I will be able to provide much better content and service to all of my followers with a more organized platform and the things I have planned will make a bigger impact! Stay tuned, things are about to get real!
Here’s to moving forward!
